Sometimes some editorial assignments are more like big commercial projects with tons of people all coming together to make one awesome shoot happen. These are my favorite types of shoots because I love partnering up with many talented artists and all working together to achieve one goal. That’s how the 2015 Atlanta reality TV and fashion Holiday cover story feature of Emily Dees Boulden for Little Black Dress magazine went.
Emily is quite the entrepreneur being the owner of Swank in Birmingham, AL, as well as, in the process of opening her Atlanta location near Lenox Mall. She’s also no stranger to reality TV and played the part of a competitive, cutthroat mom on the the Lifetime show Pretty Wicked Moms. Believe it or not, reality TV is not actually reality, just scripted reality with actors and all.
We spent about eight plus hours doing hair, make up, and shooting. Emily spent the morning with the Dyer and Posta team doing hair while Hanna Dean took care of makeup. The team stayed around the whole day touching up hair and make up as we went. I worked with Sabrina Tongren going over the styling, design, and concept of the shoot before getting all of the lighting in place and testing, so we would be able to move from set to set quickly.
Once Emily was ready, we started with the first set and focused on warming Emily up. Afterwards, we kept working though the different sets, occasionally taking a quick break here and there. Big assignments like this are typically long days with little breaks, and everyone working hard non stop, but it’s also part of the fun. Of course we were all exhausted and had tons of photos to comb though to get it down to the four photos to be used.
