A Washington DC Wedding Elopement From The United Kingdom

Engaged couple kissing in house before getting ready for their Washington DC wedding

Ellie and Mat have spent the past summer months living in Chicago and experiencing the American life. They are both from the United Kingdom but wanted to spend more time in the U.S. and love Chicago. While they were in the states, they decided on a whimsical Washington DC wedding elopement since Washington DC holds so much meaning to them. With some great planning, Ellie and Mat were able to pull off their rad Washington DC wedding elopement, as well as, include some of their closest family and friends. Speaking of which, Ellie and Mat have the most incredible group of family and friends. They share a very special relationship with each one that’s truly hard to find in life.

When the big day arrived I met with everyone at the house they were staying at. Fun, relaxing, and filled with emotion pretty much sums up the entire day. The early morning hours were no exception with tons of laughter and breakfast items flowing around the dining room table. Things quickly progressed as everyone got ready for the ceremony. Ellie headed out to Mac for makeup while the guys made trips to find cufflinks they had forgotten before everyone finally met up at Union Station for the ceremony. Right before Ellie and Mat were due to meet, Ellie was quickly overcome with nerves and excitement and tears began to roll. After some consoling from her friends and family, the ceremony soon began.

The ceremony itself was held in a seemingly quiet spot outside of Union Station. Surrounded by their closest family and friend’s, Ellie and Mat were officially married! Many passer-by-ers would stop and watch during the ceremony and a few even took full ceremony videos with their phones. I’m not exactly sure what they plan on doing with the videos of people they don’t know getting married, but it was cool that they were so interested.

After the ceremony, we all headed to the Lincoln Memorial which also holds great meaning to Ellie and Mat for portraits. The hot day didn’t seem to bother anyone and once on the Lincoln Memorial huge gusts of wind helped cool us off. Drinks and cake were had at Farewell Diner before heading back home to wrap up the incredible day with champaign, emotional speeches, tears, and group hugs!

Ellie and Mat, it was truly an honor and privilege to be a part of your U.S. adventure and your wedding celebration! Thank you for allowing me into your lives and to all of your friends and family for being so awesome. Congratulations!

Here are a few of my personal favorite photos from Ellie and Mat’s Washington DC wedding elopement!
