Practice is always good, actually, it’s great, even when you’re booked with work. Sometimes, you just want to shoot for the hell of it. True story. When looking for models for a summer fashion portraits, always overbook. I had asked two different people to model for today’s portrait session, but one had to cancel because her babysitter bailed on her. Maybe you’ll get to see her next time. Luckily, I still had Holly.
I was actually really excited to be working with Holly. For one, she was my roommate for 2 years and we’ve been friends since middle school. Two, because I’ve really been wanting to work with more black skin tones. Believe it or not, skin tones do matter and they have to be shot differently, so being able to practice on all different types is always a plus.
Holly and I worked our way around the Goat Farm taking in as much as we could and trying out different things. Some things worked great, while other things, not so much. Holly is actually a great and natural model, so that made things way easier. She’s very laid back and up for anything. Of course, she’s a little camera-shy at first like most everyone, but ten minutes into it and you would never know. I think we ended up with an awesome group of summer fashion images! What do you think?
