Recently I had the awesome opportunity to travel to New Orleans for Sarah and Edgar’s engagement session. Since I was already going down there, I took my wife Jessica, and we made it into a long weekend trip. We left Atlanta around 4pm fighting through the horrible rush hour traffic until we made it out of the city. We made good time and got to the Big Easy at around 11:30pm. After we checked into our hotel, we immediately hopped into a cab and made our way down to Bourbon street to experience some of the best nightlife New Orleans had to offer.
We kicked it off with a hand grenade. Of course not an actual hand grenade, but the kind that Tropical Isle on Bourbon street is famous for. If you are ever in the area, I definitely suggest trying one. Depending on your drink habits, one might be enough! We spent the rest of the night walking the French Quarter and people watching, which there was absolutely no shortage of interesting people to watch.
The next morning, Jessica and I woke up early and headed to Café Du Monde for some famous beignets and espresso. Both of which were amazing! From there we stopped off at St. Louis Cathedral, the oldest Cathedral in North America, in Jackson Square before making our way around the French Quarter. We browsed through the Artist Row area and headed back to Bourbon Street to experience it during the day.
We stopped at all of the shops in the area checking out the overpriced souvenirs. One of our favorite stores was Marie Laveau’s House of Voodoo where we sifted through the many trinkets and voodoo dolls. Jessica also had her palm read while we were there. The rest of the day we explored a lot of the areas that were hit by Hurricane Katrina.
Sunday was our last day there and we spent the morning just relaxing in the downtown area before meeting up with Sarah and Edgar. You can see their New Orleans engagement session on my blog, so be sure to check that out. :) On our way back to Atlanta we took the coastal route and stopped off in Biloxi Mississippi just as the last of the sunset was making it’s way over the horizon. We walked the beach for awhile and I took a couple portraits of Jessica before we ran out of light.
Here are a few photos from our adventure!
