I had the chance to spend some time with Rhoda Vickers, an Atlanta based blogger on southern living, to photograph her for her feature in Little Black Dress magazine. My mom loves country and southern living, decorating, and turning old into new, so I actually knew quite a bit about everything Rhoda talked about. My grandmother lives on an old country farm in the middle of Indiana and Rhoda’s home reminded me a lot of the farm house. Personally I’m a little more modern and industrial in my home and design style, but it was rally interesting seeing a lot of the crafty projects and decorations she created from nothing but an idea and some old items.
The little Southern Hospitality blog she started for fun back in 2007 has turned into a major brand with numerous followers and is now her full time career. She has been featured on a number of TV interviews, magazines, stores such as Lowe’s, and other media. She told me her blog, Southern Hospitality has everything from gardening and cooking in the kitchen to DIY projects and decorating. She even includes a lot of her personal ups and downs in life.
One of the biggest documented projects is a full home renovation of a Marietta foreclosure and now where she currently lives. The project was documented on her blog, but also featured in numerous publications, including the Atlanta Journal Constitution. If you are interested in southern living, crafting, DIY projects, and more, be sure to check her out. You can also like her Facebook page where she has a few hundred thousand followers! Here are a few photos from the assignment.
