Shanel and John were married at the beautiful Second Ponce de Leon Church in Atlanta and had their wedding reception at the historic Fox Theatre. The day started with Shanel and some of her bridesmaids getting ready at a local hotel and then moving to the church to finish. This idea allowed Shanel to get ready in a very relaxed environment and have plenty of room to move around. Shanel is also a very talented makeup artist based in Atlanta, so she opted to do her own makeup. A great friend and fellow makeup artist assisted everyone else.
Downtown Atlanta is always pretty crazy and busy with people and traffic hustling around. On the way to the church to meet up with everyone else and finish getting ready, there was a bomb scare which caused A LOT of traffic, blockades, and major delays. The whole craziness caused Shanel to be an hour late! Fortunately, she was well prepared and her day was very well planned out with a padded timeline. :D From there, everything moved along perfectly.
Once the wedding ceremony was set to begin, both Shanel and John were nervous and overfilled with excitement! She made her way down the aisle with John looking on in awe watching Shanel’s graceful approach. Many tears were had by pretty much everyone as Shanel and John met at the alter. With the exchanging of rings and a big kiss, they were married and made their exit to the Fox Theater for the reception.
The Fox Theatre is amazing. If you’ve never been, you should go at least once! Although nothing particularly eerie happened and I didn’t notice anything unusual in the photos, it’s also said to be haunted. Shanel and John made their entrance and had their first dance with all of their guest watching. Then dinner was served and the celebration began! We used some of the party time to take advantage of the late setting sun and atmosphere to capture some pretty awesome portraits.
After the reception, the Fox Theatre staff was so amazing to take us on a private tour of the whole theater. We used that time to capture even more awesome portraits and learn a little history of the building. I honestly can not say enough great things about the Fox Theatre and the employees. Once we were finished with the tour of the Fox, Shanel & John were not finished. We headed back to their hotel for a few more portraits. Being about midnight at that point, I’m not sure how they were not exhausted with such a long day.
Here are a few of my favorite photos from their Fox Theatre wedding! :D
