New York Street Photography – In The Streets of New York

Man standing in crowed New York subway entrance from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoLast month I traveled to New York City for Bethany and Stefan’s engagement session and while I was there I spent a lot of time exploring the city and shooting street photos. New York is one of my favorite cities, if not my top favorite. Back in the day I lived there for awhile and fell in love with everything about it, so I never miss a chance to visit. In general, I’m a very savvy, some might call it frugal, traveler, but I ended up staying right in Times Square for dirt cheap (by NYC standards) which is a great place to photograph tourist and street performers. I spent a lot of time in that area during the early mornings and really late nights.

During the middle of the day I traveled a lot around different parts of the city mostly by train. I’m a little obsessed with fitness tracking on the Apple Watch, so I would often walk long stretches though key areas like Central Park to take advantage of different locations on my way to my main destination and to log exercise. I actually averaged about sixteen miles a day! Of course the trains are awesome for street photos and unusual situations as well. I also made some personal day trips to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Tom’s Restaurant, the inspiration for the diner featured in Seinfeld. Some of my favorite locations in Manhattan to photograph are the Times Square area, Chinatown during the day, the Financial District during the week when people are going to or coming from work, and the lower east side. This time around I didn’t really venture into the other boroughs, but The Bronx and Brooklyn are on my list for next time. Here are some of my favorite photos from my trip.New York street performer wearing sick mask in Times Square from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoNew York City homeless man on his birthday begging on streets from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoMan working New York City street stand from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoSilhouette of women standing on stairs at Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoCouple hanging out on New York street corner from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoKid chasing pigeons in Times Square from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoCouple in New York store in Times Square from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoCop twirling hat in Times Square from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoNew York street elmo performer freezing in winter in Times Square from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoMan in blue with red wall taking food order in Chinatown from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoLove graffiti in Chinatown from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoWomen selling food in Chinatown from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoMan chopping duck heads in Chinatown from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoMan working in subway store in Times Square from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoSubway train operator looking out window in Times Square from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoMan looking out subway train window in Times Square from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoHomeless man in Times Square from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoCathedral of Saint John the Divine from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoStreet vendor working in Times Square from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoCouple crying breaking up from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoCouple in love on the street from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoHomeless lady begging for her homeless brother from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoLady embracing the snow from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoStreet vendor working in Times Square from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoPolice taking photo for New York tourist in Times Square from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoPolice talking to weed activists in Times Square from New York Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin + CoMy name is Matt Druin and I’m an Atlanta wedding photographer that specializes in unique, offbeat weddings for all awesome people!
