A few weeks ago I traveled up to New York City for Bethany and Stefan’s awesome urban engagement session. NYC is my favorite city and I miss living there. Both Bethany and Stefan live in New York City and wanted to give me a tour of the city and experience their favorite hangouts. We met up the night before and spent a couple of hours talking and getting to know each other better over Japanese food and sake. I’ve had some Japanese food, but not to the extent that they have, so it was a really cool experience sampling all kinds of new things.
The next day we met up early and spent hours riding the MTA around the city stopping off at Forbidden Planet comic book shop, Strand Books, the Metropolitan Museum (one of my favorite museums), Central Park, and a number of other places. Of course no engagement session can be complete without breaks for some great food and coffee.Although we spent most of the day traveling all over the city, none of us were really wore out. I had already been in town for a few days spending about twelve to fifteen hours a day exploring and shooting street photography, so I was already in shape for the adventure. We all decide to finish of the day with drinks at a local bar in the Times Square area.
While I was in New York one of my stopping off points was Tom’s Restaurant. If you’re not a Seinfeld fan, it’s the diner that inspired the one on the show. The next morning we met uptown to have breakfast at the little diner. Luckily we were able to get in quickly as it was getting colder each day and snowing off and on. Afterwards we walked down to Cathedral of Saint John the Divine which was only a couple of blocks away. If you ever go to NYC, be sure to stop off there. The architecture, history, and emotion is simply amazing. They seem to be always working and fixing the building, so I always stop off there to see what’s new when I’m in town.
It was a really amazing and very personal experience getting to spend such a huge amount of time with Bethany and Stefan and getting to experience their everyday life. Here are some of my favorite photos from Bethany and Stefan’s New York City engagement session.
