We are in the beginning stages of launching our new Unfiltered Day In The Life Family Documentary experiences (more to come on that at a later date) and Sabrina and Pete’s family was the first to go. They were our guinea pigs so to speak. A trial and run of how we want to approach family photos; a raw, unfiltered documentary of one family’s entire day starting before they wake up until after they go to bed.
I arrived at 5:30am before most of the house was awake. This particular Monday was a little different for them since it was Jett’s, Sabrina and Pete’s son, first day of school. In order to get everyone out on time, they all had to get up much earlier than normal, so that changed things up quite a bit. I had spent time with the whole family a few days before playing with Jett and getting to know everyone. This way I wasn’t just some stranger people are waking up to. As Jett slowly woke up, he became super excited about his first day of school and to see me.
The routine stayed the same with Jett getting his booty changed and then running to wake up mom. Once Sabrina had woke up everyone headed down stairs to get breakfast started. Jett was excited for cold pancakes and fruit. As he ate his breakfast, Jett had a small breakdown of tears. You know, pretty typical toddler stuff. After a little condolence, Jett was all smiles again, and the rest of the family joined him for breakfast.
After breakfast Sabrina and Jett played for a bit while Pete got ready for work. Then it was time to get Jett dressed for school. Toddlers, being high energy from wake up until bed, can make for some long days and difficult times getting the most basic stuff accomplished. Jett loved making everything a game and a playful activity which made for some comical good times. Once Jett was ready to roll, it was Sabrina’s turn to get ready. Jett played with dad and helped mom get ready by throwing his favorite stuffed animal at her and pretending to play baseball.
Once everyone was ready, we all headed out and loaded up the car. Jett listened to his favorite band and chatted with mom and dad the whole way. When we arrived at school the whole family was excited for Jett’s first day at school and walked in together. Sadly, I was not allowed to go into the school and photograph, so I waited in the car. While Jett was in school and Sabrina and Pete were at work, I managed to get a short nap in to regain energy for the rest of the day. :)
When we picked Jett up from school, he was super excited to talk about his day while chowing down on some of his favorite snacks. The minute we got home, Jett wasted no time gathering up his toys to play outside. A lack of nap at school didn’t seem to slow him down, but did cause a few more breakdowns. Later in the afternoon, Pete arrived home and everyone helped with dinner for their traditional family dinner picnic. Jett continued playing in-between bites of food and loved rough housing the best. As the sun began to set quicker, it was bath time. Jett loved bath time and was quick to make it up to his bathroom. The fun didn’t stop just because he got clean. It also didn’t stop once Jett’s bath was over. He reluctantly got out of the tub, but proceeded to run around naked and hop on his mom and dad’s backs for rides. Once getting dressed and a quick teeth brush, reading was next on the list. Jett picked out one of his favorite books and everyone gathered around for the story. After prayer time, the lights went dark, but a faint glow from Jett’s room continued from his nightlight on his bed as he read a couple more books before falling asleep.
It was a truly an incredibly rad experience being able to spend twelve plus hours with Sabrina, Pete, and Jett like I was just another member of the family. I absolutely love the photographs, the story, and all the emotions I was able to capture. Here are some of my favorites from the experience.
