Some time ago, at Cedar Point, a guy and a girl both worked as ride hosts at two different rides in the amusement park. Through mutual friends their paths crossed ways and in 2010 a romance began. Kristen and Allen are very spontaneous people in life as well as all aspects of their relationship. When it came to the proposal, Allen tried to plan it out, but his first attempt was botched by a ring that was late to the store. The following day Allen offered to go out to pick up breakfast while Kristen slept in. Secretly, he slipped away to pick up the ring and headed back home. As he walked in, Allen was caught ring handed by Kristen and with no other option, he proposed right then and there.
Although both Allen and Kristen now live in Georgia, they decided on a destination wedding in Detroit Michigan. Well, more specifically, Kristen’s childhood home of Port Huron. One thing I loved about being in Michigan was Tim Hortons coffee and donut holes which I’ve missed since moving to Atlanta from Dayton, Ohio. Hopefully they’ll make their way further south. :)
On the big day, everyone got ready at the Hilton of Port Huron hotel on the St. Clair river, just across the way from Canada. Since everyone stayed at the same location, it made everything much easier. The girls started off with hair and makeup as the guys….well, I’m not sure what they were doing at the time. Probably some sort of guy stuff.
Kristen and Allen had special gifts they wanted to exchange while they were getting ready. Seeing as I was already jumping back and fourth between the girls and the guys, I had the honor of delivering the gifts. With each gift, a handwritten letter was included and some great emotions came from Kristen and Allen.
The guys and I headed down to the river area for some fun portraits as the girls finished getting ready. On the way down to the river, we came across some kids playing baseball behind the hotel, so everyone jumped in for a couple plays. Once the girls were ready, we met up with them for some more portraits before heading to the ceremony.
Kristen and Allen were married at St. Joseph Catholic Church a couple miles away from the hotel. Everyone gathered to put on last minute touches as all the guests quickly arrived. After the ceremony Kristen, Allen, and myself took off around town for some portraits. They had a limo that drove them around to the different locations which made for some entertaining turns and maneuvering in some of the tighter areas. We made several stops including an abandoned warehouse, the river front, a small fishing pier, and a large dirt parking lot. Yeah…dirt parking lots can be awesome!
After our tour across the city, we headed over to Alexander’s Premiere Banquet for the reception. The reception was already filled with all the guests having a great time. As Kristen, Allen, and the wedding party made their grand entrance the reception filled with loud cheers. Kristen and Allen had their first dance and then everyone sat down to eat. Once the dancing got started, it was non-stop all night. The dance floor seemed to always be packed with people having a great time!
Here are some of my personal favorites from their big day! A big congratulations to Kristen and Allen! :)
