After Jessica and I returned home from working in New York City, we repacked our bags a few days later for Amanda and Scott’s Jacksonville Florida engagement session.
Amanda and Scott both have ties to Florida and Jacksonville, including attending the University of North Florida, where they were both history majors. We figured this would be a great location to start telling their story from the beginning. Their relationship started while they were taking a magazine writing class with a horrible professor. They bonded over the shared trauma and weirdness of the class and the rest is history. Ha! You like that history pun? No? Okay then, moving on.
Jessica and I, as well as our son Mason, and our dogs, all made the trip down the day before. It was a pretty full car, but everyone traveled well. On the day of Amanda and Scott’s engagement session, I met them at the University of North Florida. Everyone was out on summer break, so we had the whole place to ourselves. We made our way around various parts of the campus taking advantage of the environment. Amanda and Scott both made the school sound very blah as far as aesthetics go, but I found it to be awesome. Challenging in some aspects, but we managed to find amazing uses for the structure.
From UNF we made the 45 minute trip to Amelia Island to visit the beach. While at the beach we talked a lot about the landscape and various historical features. We timed everything perfectly with the excepted sunset time to ensure we had some great, soft, and romantic lighting.
An interesting fact that I didn’t know, there is a certain plant on the dunes of the beach that if you pick it up or cut it you will end up with a pretty huge fine and even jail time! Scott told me the name of the plant a number times, but sadly I forgot or I would tell you. You can see it looking awesome in the last photo below. Apparently the plant has a massive root system that literally helps hold up the dunes. Without it, the whole beach would wash away! Needless to say, be carefully what you pick up on beaches.
Afterwards, Jessica, Mason, and I joined some of our local friends for dinner. By then it was pretty late in the night and way past Mason’s bedtime. The hardest and best part of any great trip is the return home. I always hate having to go back, but I always love it when I get home.
Here are some of my favorite photos from Amanda and Scott’s Florida engagement session.
