My three-year-old son, Mason has always seemingly had an interest in photography. As a baby, he would always play with his toy camera and pretend to take photos with it as he got older. Maybe much of this is watching me take photos, pack my equipment for jobs, and things like that. At the beginning of the year, I got him his first real camera, an old Sony point and shoot (model DSC-W70), put it on auto everything, and taped over all of the buttons. Since then he’s been running crazy with his new camera documenting the world around him. I recently upgraded his camera to the Nikon CoolPix W100 in his favorite color blue! It’s built to be waterproof, shockproof, simplistic, and easy to use which is perfect for little hands that are are not so gentle with things.

I decided to take my son’s photos and create an Instagram account for him. I primarily did this for me personally to have a visual way to watch his growth in photography, understand how he sees the world around him over time, and for general interest. The Dad Time Podcast picked up on this and we had a chat about my son’s photography interest, being a dad, and parenting. Although Mason wanted to chime in, having a 3-year-old explain things, well…might not make the most interesting or easy to listen to podcast. Lol.
