SNOW IN ATLANTA IS SERIOUS BUSINESS!

Atlanta Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin

The north laughs at the south about our snow conditions and ability to survive, but they have no clue how deadly it really is in Atlanta. From the first spotted snowflake, Atlantians know things are about to get ugly! If you don’t act fast you will starve. Milk, bread, cheese, Pringles, cupcakes, even Spam….all gone!! Fights breakout in grocery store lines, people abandoned their cars, and everyone is in a mad dash to make it home. Atlanta Wedding Photographer Matthew Druin

Doors are quickly locked and lights are turned off in everyone’s home in hopes of making it out alive. Occasional you can catch a glimpse of neighbors peeking through their blinds in an effort to evaluate the safety conditions outside. Most of America is familiar with The Walking Dead and there is a lot of truth behind the show and Atlanta. You have to be a true survivalist in order to make it though any winter in Georgia when snow plagues the cities and chaos erupts.  Atlanta Editorial Photographer Matt Druin

Snowpocalypse, Snowmageddon, you name it, we have it. The Atlanta government has not been very prepared in the past, but recently they decided to step up their game. They started by declaring a state of emergency and trying to round up every snowplow within 1000 square miles. Salt and sand were imported in vast quantities and the National Guard was called in for back up. Even with all of that, Atlanta is still under attack!  Atlanta Editorial Photographer Matt Druin

Stores, restaurants, and other businesses have been closed and the city shutdown. No one is taking any chances except for a few runners out jogging through the icy landscape. The media is covering the catastrophe, but is failing to show the real horror due to not wanting to alarm the community. This, in itself, is causing more harm than good since people have little knowledge of the real dangers out there. Atlanta Editorial Photographer Matt Druin

It is extremely dangerous in the city and things can turn from decent to deadly real quick. I myself was almost taken out by a pack of snowmen as I inched closer and closer to capture some of these horrific photos! I was able to bash one in the head with my camera and barely escaped the rest by sacrificing my coffee onto the group.

So in short, be very careful out there. Do not take any chances even if you desperately need Ho-Hos!
