Olivia & Duwane met one 4th of July at a BBQ. Duwane ran the Peachtree Road Race earlier that day and almost didn’t make it to the BBQ, so things could have turned out much different. Duwane approached Olivia and they haven’t stopped talking since. Then the proposal came. Duwane ran the Peachtree Road Race once again, but this time was greeted by Olivia, family, and friends as he crossed the finish line. Grabbing Olivia’s hand, he got down on one knee and in front of everyone, proposed to her. She was so overwhelmed she didn’t even hear the questions, she just said YES!
Last week I had the awesome pleasure of meeting up with Olivia and Duwane in downtown Atlanta for their engagement session. Other than something urban and a little grungy, I didn’t have much else to go on as far as planning went. I decided some of the great neighborhoods in Atlanta would offer exactly what we were after. We first made our way to Cabbagetown walking the area and making stops at interesting locations.
From there we stopped by the Krog Street tunnel which offers an ever-changing smorgasbord of graffiti and other street art. In Atlanta, it’s a pretty hot tunnel that has been seen in everything from photos, to music videos, and even movies. You can stop by just about anytime and see someone making something. If you live in Atlanta and haven’t been to the area, you should definitely check it out. As the sun began to set we decided to head back to our cars and visit a few other locations before it got too dark.
As things normally go, we spotted an incredible location we just had to stop at. We proceeded down the street which ended at a dead end. The bridge that was once there was nothing but a giant hole in the earth. The scene had a very apocalyptic look and feel. It was almost like The Walking Dead without the zombies….well there could have been, but we didn’t see any. Duwane is a big fan of the show, so it was a perfect fit! Although the area was fenced off, we were still able to sneak a few photos of the epic cityscape view with the golden sun setting low in the Atlanta skyline.
Finally, we made our way to the Virginia Highland area to capture a bit of “A Night on the Town” feel. At that point, the sun was barley lighting up the sky which added some great ambiance to the already cool area. We made our way up and down Highland avenue stopping at a variety of awesome locations. Here are a few of my personal favorites from the session.
