Some people meet at school, others through friends. A few people meet through social media like Facebook or even sites like E-Harmony, but how many people do you know meet through World of Warcraft!? Not many. At least I haven’t…..until I met Melissa and Jonathan. Yes. They met amongst the battles of the virtual war, states apart, Melissa in Atlanta and Jon in Delaware. They started a long-distance relationship without ever meeting until one day when Melissa flew to Philadelphia to meet Jon for the first time. Three years later after some school, some life, and Jon moving to Atlanta, they were engaged!
So here is how it happened. Jon left for New York from Atlanta on a Tuesday on business. Their plan was for Melissa to fly into Philly on Friday and Jon would drive his rental down to pick her up from the airport. Well, business and traffic can be a nightmare, so Melissa was asked to take the train from the airport to Doylestown. Jon made sure to tell her not to get on the moving walkway outside the gate, since the train station entrance was before the walkway ended.
Meanwhile…….Jon is not in New York. He’s been in PA the whole time and is now braving Philly traffic to get to the airport to meet her. Melissa’s flight was scheduled to land at 4:20. Jon made it there at 3:55. Plenty of time, right?! Well, perhaps for the first time in Philadelphia history her plane was early. She landed at about 3:50 and sent Jon a text that she was there.
I know! This sounds like some crazy movie, but it’s not over yet.
Once Melissa saw where she needed to go, she made a beeline for it avoiding the moving sidewalk as Jon had suggested. As she’s en route, she glanced to her left to see a man with a sign in front of his face. “Does that say ‘Bloomquist?”, she thought. She slowed down long enough to realize that, yes, her last name was on the sign. The man lowers it from his face as she walked towards him…..and there was Jon!
She asked Jon what he was doing there and that’s when he handed her a framed poem given to him by his grandmother 20 years ago. The poem was about honoring his family name and she realized with shock what was happening (and the tears started flowing).
It was there, in that very spot, three years earlier they had first laid eyes on each other. Jon dropped to one knee and asked if Melissa would honor him by taking his family name and being his bride. He opened a little black box and presented her with the most gorgeous ring she had ever seen.
She said yes!
So, that is the story on how we got to where we are now, shooting Melissa and Jonathan’s engagement session at the Buckhead W Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. That is also why there are photos of the two of them playing video games. Probably not the fluffy engagement session you typically might see. Maybe a little flirty……even a little risqué, but definitely awesome.
